Celebrating our October Volunteer of the Month!

“Volunteering for the VPAC is a very worthwhile experience, and it’s a wonderful organization to be a part of! I’m happy I can contribute whatever I am able,” – Kim, volunteer of the Institute since 2017

I recently sat down with Kim, our October volunteer spotlight! She joined VIPA as a volunteer for our 2017-18 season and has quickly become an energetic and friendly staple of our beautiful theater.

What do you like about volunteering for VIPA?

The office is full of fun people to work with, I enjoy helping out a nonprofit, and for me personally, it’s nice to keep one toe in the working world. The other six days of the week my toes are in the sand!

What do you like to do in your free time?

I’m a part of Venice Newcomers, which is for people who have just moved to the area and have lived in Venice for less than 3 years. We have social outings, card games, wine and beer tastings, and it’s a great way to meet people when you’re new! You graduate to NOVA after 3 years (Newcomers of Venice Alumni).

My husband and I also like to go boating. Since we’re members of Freedom Boat Club we can go up and down the coast. We enjoy pickleball and riding our bikes on the Legacy Trail, too. There are so many great opportunities to be active in our community.

What brought you to Venice?

We lived in Connecticut, but had been coming down for years to visit my husband’s aunt and uncle. In 2011, we said, “we should retire there!” and then we finally made it down here in 2016 full time.
