VIPA Welcomes Jon DeVries as Director of Development

The Venice Institute for Performing Arts (VIPA) is excited to welcome Jon DeVries as its new Director of Development, a role that will help shape the future of the organization’s fundraising, donor engagement, grant development, and community partnerships.

With more than 30 years of experience spanning media, philanthropy, fundraising, and nonprofit leadership, DeVries brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep commitment to strengthening communities through meaningful connections and charitable support.

A longtime member of the Venice community, DeVries grew up in Venice and has dedicated much of his career to helping nonprofit organizations thrive throughout Southwest Florida. His professional journey began in media, where he spent 17 years with the New York Times Regional Media Group, including 14 years with the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, before transitioning into leadership roles within the nonprofit sector.

Throughout his career, DeVries has built a reputation for creating impactful partnerships, leading successful fundraising initiatives, and helping organizations grow their reach and sustainability. His experience includes serving as Senior Vice President for Communications, Marketing and Development/Fundraising for the Collins Center for Public Policy, along with leadership and development positions at Senior Friendship Centers, The Venice Symphony, and the Laurel Civic Association.

At VIPA, DeVries will play a key role in advancing the organization’s mission to educate, sustain, and inspire through the performing arts. As the organization continues to expand its educational programs, presenting season, and community outreach efforts, his leadership will help secure the resources needed to support future growth and impact.

“Jon’s extensive experience in fundraising, communications, and nonprofit leadership makes him an outstanding addition to our team,” said Derek Blankenship, Executive Director of VIPA. “His deep connection to our community, combined with a proven track record of building meaningful relationships and securing vital resources, will help us expand opportunities for students, artists, and audiences alike. We are thrilled to welcome Jon to VIPA as we continue to grow our impact and advance our mission for future generations.”

For DeVries, joining VIPA represents an opportunity to support an organization whose mission aligns closely with his passion for community engagement and education.

“The arts have the power to inspire, educate, and bring people together,” said DeVries. “I’m honored to join VIPA and contribute to an organization that is making such a meaningful impact on students and the community. I look forward to building relationships with donors, partners, and supporters who share our commitment to ensuring the arts continue to thrive in Venice.”
